Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
